VITRINA EXHIBITIONS is a pilot project focused on the community of creatives and visual artists in Aruba. Our goal is to offer a space for local artists to present their work and interesting activities for the creative community of Aruba. We invited three local artists to show some of their existing works in one of the windows of Wolff & Co. Studio, located on the third floor of Royal Plaza. This vitrine has been refurbished as an exhibition space where anyone can pass by and admire the works at any time of the day. Each exhibition will last 1 month and will be accompanied by relevant activities related to the artist's practice. The exhibitions will take place in July, September, and November of 2023.

VITRINA EXHIBITIONS was born out of the desire of Wolff & Co. Studio to open its space to other local creatives. Ken Wolff elaborates that the studio was born with the vision of being a space for creatives by creatives. In addition, our projects have always had as their goal the development of the artistic practice of local visual artists. This is achieved by offering a payment (artist fee) for the artistic work as well as creating educational and academic material about these local practices, in our language.
VITRINA EXHIBITIONS is a collaboration between Plataforma Aruba and Wolff & Co. Studio with the support of the Mondriaan Fund.

ENGLISH
Our second VITRINA EXHIBITION showcases the work of Irvin Aguilar, a local visual artist and graphic designer. Aguilar uses the medium of printmaking to explore artmaking’s own process and highlight the labor behind the profession of an artist.
The installation ALKIMIA, is an invitation to step into the atelier of the artist, an intimate space of production, and his ‘ritual’ of transforming materials into an artwork. The title of the exhibition and the piece allude to these capabilities of transformation. Just like an alchemist transforms common materials into precious things, so does an artist transform concepts, questions, and materials into works of art. Aguilar’s works may sometimes appear incomplete or ‘below the standards of classical print-making’ but in reality, they reveal the process of transformation.
The mask he wears is a mode of protection and changes him into THE print-maker, where he himself, as a person, becomes only an instrument for the production of the work. In a way, it touches upon the anonymity of artists as can be seen in for example street graffiti, where the focus lies on the work and not who the artist is. As such, it can be seen as opening the discussion about the complexities of the anonymity, intentional or not, of an artist.

The performance will take place on the opening night only, after which the installation will remain on view until the 8th of October.
